Regardless of the literacy rate in society or proficiency, some people may still feel hesitant about handwriting characters. For instance, my father's handwriting is not very sophisticated despite his academic and intellectual performance, as he said that he liked French than German. My mother likes Japanese calligraphy, but her academic or intellectual ability is not significantly high.
